Often times we see mods here, and while they are all great, sometimes you wonder where the idea, inspiration or thought came from. In this article showing Gary's latest mod we also see what the inspiration was for it. |

Right, so I got my Spirit X from Tim, and here's my review. I'm quite excited about this one because I had been obsessing about it for some time. Not the decision as to whether to buy one, but about how to get a pocket clip on it. I do not have the ability nor tools to perform the excellent mod done by J-Sews, so I had to think of something else.
This something else is the Clipdraw, which I first read about on this forum. This is not so much a review of the Spirit X as it is one of the Clipdraw on one.

Well, I have to say, as an experienced ultra-light backpacker, that the
Victorinox Compact is IT for hiking. I own many SA knives, all bought
for hiking, and have finally pared my do-it-all tool box down to the
Compact model. It does just about all I need it to do in a very small
and light package. I use the main blade for cutting cheese, summer
sausage, etc., the scissors for cutting mole skin for blisters, the
small screwdriver for resetting the declination on my compass, the
opener for opening if needed (thanks for the article on this tool) and
lastly the pen lets me not carry the full size pen that I used to
carry. The rest of the stuff gets used for something, I even used the
straight pin once after I found it hiding behind the cork screw. Ultra
light hiking is all about multi-function and light weight.

Thanks to some new stuff from Rotokid, I’ve been able to complete a project that I’ve had in the back of my mind for a while. I’d often thought about layering several strips of spacer material to create a “striped” look to a SAK scale, but the question always was, what to put on top? |
