Wenger has been cranking out so many new and great designs this year that I was pleased to see that they had slowed the "new" designs to concentrate of refining the existing designs. Forward motion is great (as we've seen from their recent designs), but without substance and some refining, a brand can suffer. Not so with Wenger. While they do have some new stuff coming (I have photos, but can't share them just yet!) they instead decided to spend this year fleshing out some of their designs, and if their inbox is anything like mine, it's in response to customer demands.
As many of you remember, I wished some time ago that Wenger would start putting the EVOGrip inserts in the New Ranger lineup, and to be honest, I fully expected to see that at this year's SHOT Show. I wasn't disappointed, but they did manage to still surprise me as they not only had models with the EVOGrip neoprene inserts, but they were also in different colors too!
I've been wanting a New Ranger in a different color for some time, but the only ones available were the fancy purple/blue ones that were offered to the Boy Scouts. Well this year a bright red and olive drab green were added to the mix and with the comfortable grips to boot! These could well be the perfect Rangers.
Wenger was also nice enough to supply me with an Olive Drab Ranger ?? for evaluation, which I will publish next month as I haven't had adequate time to put through the paces yet. I will say this though- this knife feels amazing in the hand.
So far it's only the 178, 74, 79, 179, and 61 models that will get the color and EVOGrip treatment, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more colors and models waiting in the wings. I'm going to cast my vote now for a yellow one! |
I love these new Rangers. Wenger added some perfect touches to these. They are due to deliver in late March.
